'88-89 Bernie Federko (#24) Home CCM Jersey w/ "C" & "8" & "DK" patches (Retired # - HOFer)
Born: Foam Lake, Saskatoon, Canada - May 12, 1956 St. Louis’ 1st Round Choice, 7th Overall in 1976 NHL Draft Center - Blues Career: 1976-89, GP 927, G 352, A 721, Pts 1073, PIM 463
Bernie Federko was the consummate St. Louis Blue. Drafted in the 1st round in 1976, he would go on to play more games in the BlueNote than any other player ever. He also is the franchise leader in points. With those accolades to his name, perhaps his greatest asset is the quiet class he brought to the organization. Throughout his playing career he was a quiet leader on and off the ice and this was recognized ultimately in 1988 as he became the Captain of the Blues following the retirement of fellow linemate Brian Sutter. In 2002, Federko was elected to the HHOF. His number also hangs proudly in the Scottrade rafters as one of only a handful of Blues so honored. Bernie's statue is displayed prominently in the arena as well and he continues to be a visible ambassador for the franchise, serving as their TV color commentator.
The extraordinary jersey displayed here is truly one of the finest pieces in this collection and a gem within our hobby. The wear is very heavy and includes heavy marks, pilling, burns, unrepaired holes, and 6 team repairs. The "8" patch on the shoulder honors fellow retired number honoree, Barclay Plager who had succumbed to cancer. The "DK" patch on the opposite shoulder commemorates Dan Kelly, the "voice of the Blues", who had also passed away from cancer and from whom this site gets its name. Simply a magnificent piece worthy of the Hockey Hall of Fame. I am very thankful to own it.
