Career Stats and Awards

In the greatest trade in team history thus far, GM Ron Caron sent the Blues top goalie and defenseman to Calgary for an unproven right wing who wasn’t even in the Flames starting lineup at the time. That player just happened to be the son of HOFer Bobby Hull and the apple didn‘t fall far from the tree. The “Golden Brett” would score 527 goals and 936 points over the next 11 seasons while emerging as a true NHL superstar. Brett scored 41 goals in his first full season in St. Louis and then exploded with seasons of 72-86-70-54-57 goals respectively.

His two “50 goals in 50 games” seasons place him alongside Wayne Gretzky as the only other NHL player to ever accomplish the feat. His 86 goal campaign is an NHL record for right wings and is the 3rd highest single season total ever, again second only to the Great One’s totals of 87 and 92.

Hull combined with Adam Oates to form one of the deadliest duos ever seen on NHL ice. Brett’s quick release snap shot was even more effective than his renowned slap shot and he proved to be one of the greatest goal scorers in NHL history. One of the biggest tragedies in Blues history is that he wasn’t allowed to complete his entire career in the BlueNote. Though critics claimed you could not win a championship with Brett Hull, he went on to win two Stanley Cups and scored the clinching goal for Dallas vs. Buffalo in ‘98-99. The St. Louis Blues have yet to win one.

In 1990-91 Brett Hull became the first Blues player ever to win the Hart Trophy as League MVP and would also capture the Lady Byng and Lester Pearson awards while in St. Louis.  Brett Hull's #16 has been retired by the Blues making he and his father Bobby the only father-son combination in all of professional sports to have been so honored by their teams.
