Few players have had a more interesting tenure with the Blues than Shanny. He was signed under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement in 1991 as a restricted free agent pending compensation to his former team. The NHL had an unwritten rule that this should not be done, the Blues were the first team to exercise this right, so an arbitrator punished the team by awarding then Captain Scott Stevens to New Jersey as compensation. Shanahan would emerge as a superstar power forward while in the Gateway City twice crashing the 50 goal mark. His finest season here was in '93-94, the year this jersey was worn, when he scored 52 goals and 102 points and was named he NHL's 1st Team All Star Left Wing.
While becoming a fan favorite and superstar on the ice, however, Shanny had his off-ice issues to deal with. Turmoil created by his relationship with teammate Craig Janney's wife as well as friction with GM/Coach Mike Keenan ultimately led to his stunning trade for Chris Pronger in the summer of 1995.
